Get close follow-up from Caritas

Young mother receives cash benefit from Caritas Venezuela

Ronnelis (20) lives in Coro city in Venezuela with her husband Isaac. Together they have three children, the youngest being little Yulianny.

The man, Isaac (22), is unemployed. Without income, every day is a struggle to get enough food for the family. This is taking a toll on his two-year-old daughter, who is struggling to gain weight. At one of the health clinics of Caritas In Venezuela, the entire family receives close monitoring to ensure they consume more nutritious food. The training includes how to best utilize the little food available.

Receive cash assistance

Over the course of five months, the family receives health care, food assistance and guidance. Instead of distributing food, the family receives cash from Caritas so that they can buy the food they need. The money they don't spend can be saved and invested in, among other things, chickens and pigs so that they become self-sufficient in eggs and meat. This provides access to protein-rich food, but also a welcome income from the surplus food that they can sell on the market.

Plastic housing

The house they live in is made of collected plastic. It helps against the sun, but it gets very damp when it rains. This means that the children are constantly sick. The challenges are many for the young couple. They do everything in their power to ensure that the children can go to public school. And Isaac dreams of getting a job that will allow him to give his family a decent home to live in.
